The collaboration between the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and AE Tollway Private Limited (AETPL), an SPV (special purpose vehicle) under IRB Infrastructure Developers Ltd., culminated in a concession agreement on September 1st, 2015. This agreement entails the construction, operation, and maintenance of the Agra Etawah Bypass NH 2 Project. For a duration of 24 years, post the specified timeline, the project remains under concession. During this period, the concessionaire has the authorization to levy the prescribed user fee on drivers.
The segment between Agra and Etawah, spanning 124.52 km along NH 2, forms an integral part of the Agra Etawah Bypass NH 2 Project. Through a build-operate-transfer (BOT) or design-build-finance-operate-transfer (DBFOT) framework, this stretch will be expanded from four to six lanes.

This proposed highway route traverses Uttar Pradesh districts such as Agra, Firozabad, Mainpuri, and Etawah. Among the notable towns along the route are Agra, Etmadpur, Firozabad, Shikohabad, Jaswantnagar, and Etawah.
Agra, renowned for the iconic Taj Mahal, Fatehpur Sikri, and Red Fort, stands as a globally acclaimed travel destination. Furthermore, the Bharatpur National Park's avian sanctuary has earned recognition as a World Heritage Site. The Sikandara mausoleums of Itmad-ud-Daula and Akbar also hold the potential to be designated as future World Heritage Sites.
